Information Paper - Australian Dangerous Goods Code 7.9 - what’s coming new and what’s coming?

January 2025 - Alexandra Neovius, Special Counsel, Corporate, Energy and Resources at ABRI member Johnson Winter Slattery has prepared an information paper on the latest edition of the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road & Rail (the Code) is edition 7.9, which can be used from 1 October 2024 (depending on location), with compliance mandatory from 1 October 2025. The paper covers:

Presentation - Greenwashing: Making claims about environmental sustainability and performance

5 Dec 2024 - With the ACCC prioritising enforcement around the accuracy of corporate sustainability and environmental claims, ABRI arranged for Johnson Winter Slattery Partner, Michelle Laidlaw, to provide members with an overview of:

  • What is greenwashing?

  • Recent updates in sustainability policy development

  • Australian Consumer Law and ACCC green guidance

  • Examples including accuracy, advertising, risks, qualifications, vagueness

Presentation - Improving Lithium-Ion battery safety management: 2024 Review of Fire Risk Management and Emergency Preparedness associated with end-of-life batteries

2 Sept 2025 - An overview of the state of knowledge of management of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries in Australia with focus on fire and emergency management.

Background

This review has been used to inform a national guideline, which aims to:-

  • Provide jurisdictions with a national state of knowledge when developing any local guideline and undertaking regulatory functions.

  • Promote harmonisation of storage, handling and transport requirements.

  • Building a strong understanding and clarity for local government and industry on how to safely dispose of and manage waste LIBs
