2. Engagement in Canberra on industry priorities and need for action
ABRI’s CEO, Katharine Hole, has been meeting with key stakeholders in Canberra to highlight economic opportunities and the need for action to support lithium battery recycling in Australia. The discussions focused on leveraging public policy and private investment.
There is considerable interest in building Australia’s battery value chain, including reclaiming raw materials from batteries. Discussion areas included ABRI’s five-year vision, pilot projects, mapping battery recycling activities across Australia, regional opportunities, job potential, and how recycled materials can support battery manufacturing in Australia.
ABRI will continue to closely engage with the Commonwealth to build support for the sector. This complements ABRI’s ongoing discussions with NSW, Victoria, and waste sector stakeholders on mandatory producer responsibility. The goal is to make 2025 pivotal for the sector.
Meetings have been held with:
Office of the Prime Minister
Treasurer’s Office
Office of the Minister for Industry and Science
Office of the Minister for Climate Change and Energy
Office of the Leader of the Opposition
Office of the Leader of the National Party (still to come)
Senator Pocock’s Office
Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (circular economy group)
Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries

4. Presentation - 21 March (12pm AEST) - Insights from China - HV traction battery tracking, coding and real-time monitoring
Join ABRI members and key stakeholders for an exclusive presentation by Johannes Lehmann as he shares insights into how tracking, coding and real-time monitoring are leveraged in Mainland China to support battery recycling and circular economy initiatives.
Johannes a former project lead in HV-Traction battery coding, tracking, and real-time monitoring (RTM) has over a decade of experience in China’s rapidly evolving technology, EV, and mobility sector. This experience includes leadership roles in battery compliance, tracking systems, and regulatory navigation. Johannes will provide a deep dive into the policy landscape, technical frameworks and real-world applications driving sustainable battery management. Having worked on battery coding and real-time monitoring strategies for high-voltage systems, he brings valuable expertise on how data-driven approaches are shaping the next generation of EV battery lifecycle management.
This presentation will provide first-hand insights into the intersection of technology, policy, and sustainability from a professional who has worked at the forefront of innovation, product management, and regulatory strategy in one of the world’s most advanced EV markets.
